Where does one get inspiration from?

Inspiration for the Montage

Traditional Geordie folksong ‘When the boat comes in‘ is the inspiration behind this short video montage that promotes tourism to the port of Jeddah, and the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia. The song speaks of family, dance, joy and eager anticipation of a boat arriving – Good material for a tourism themed ad. The ad is designed to be light-hearted, fun, family friendly, Euro-centric but not run afoul of conservative Saudi norms.

Theme song:                   ‘When the boat comes in’.

Lyrics:                                William Watson. Circa 1826.

Length of tourism ad: 1 minute 40 seconds

Image sources:              Pexels.com/Pixabay/Adobe Stock/City of Jeddah website.

Video sources:               Pixabay/ Artlist.io (AI generated).

Editing software:          Adobe Premier Pro.

The Development Process

Reflecting the lyrics of the song, my montage tells the story of a happy family who dances together while waiting for the boat to come ashore bringing fish to eat. I used daytime and evening photos to highlight daytime and evening tourist activities. I improvised the lyrics in the last stanza to reflect a cosy evening culinary theme.

When initially brainstroming ideas I’d intended to show luxury buildings, white sand beaches, and couples snorkeling, but since I was told to produce a video less than 2 minutes long, I selected pictures that best adhered to the song’s lyrics and story.

I had several problems editing this video. My laptop’s screen is so small I found it difficult reading and accessing Premier Pro’s tool bars, so as a result, produced less-than-desireable text in the video. This is one area I need to improve on.

Despite the difficulties, I learnt a lot using Adobe Premier Pro’s functions, and enjoyed the experience.

I hope you enjoy my video montage.
