Recently, I created a storyboard for a tutorial about helping salespeople with cold calling. I created ‘Cold Call Mastery in 5 Easy Steps!’ based on many of my own experiences as a successful cold caller. Creating a digital learning resource is a requirement for one of my courses: EL6072 – Interactive Courseware Workshop.
Why did I choose to create a course about cold calling?
I chose the topic after reading data from Keller Research Centre that showed newly-trained salespeople often struggle to covert cold calls into product sales. Selling things to strangers over the phone isn’t easy. Many salespeople suffer depression after numerous phone rejections. A few gradually avoid making cold calls altogether. A third, leave before their second year of employment, without meeting their sales targets. In 2022, the US sales employee turnover rate was 35% compared to 13% for other professions (Source: HubSpot). Such low retention impacts company recruiting and increases training costs
Seeing the need for an eLearning tutorial to fill sales employee knowledge gaps, I created an online tutorial targeted at newly employed sales agents. It focuses on building confidence and overcoming objections – key components of successful cold calling. Ai was used to generate images on the storyboard. At the bottom of this page is a screen shot of part of my tutorial’s storyboard.
The tutorial’s call scripts are tried and tested, and should help salespeople open interactions with clients effectively. They helped me. In 2012, while working in financial sales for Bank of America, I cold called a businessman in Denver using a call script. Three follow-up meetings later, he transferred US$250000 to me to manage.
A good call script can make an amazing difference.
Designing a story board isn’t as easy as it seems. But it was fun. I’ll use the popular apps Powtoon and Articulate Storyline to develop it.
The next few days will be interesting. Wish me luck!
